About Kmong

Kmong (크몽) is a Korean freelance marketplace where clients buy fixed-price service packages, called gigs, from freelancers the platform calls experts. Its catalogue covers about 700 fields, from design, IT and programming, video and marketing to translation, e-books, lessons and tax, legal and labour services. Each gig usually offers Standard, Deluxe and Premium packages with a fixed price, portfolio, reviews and a note on whether the seller can issue a tax invoice. Kmong says it has 4.55 million cumulative members and 7.7 million cumulative transactions (vendor-reported).

Clients search or browse gigs, message experts through Kmong Message or a 0504 safe phone number, and pay through the platform. Kmong holds the money in escrow (안전결제, safe payment) until the client confirms the purchase, and direct payment to sellers is not allowed. Larger jobs of 5 million KRW or more can go through Kmong Enterprise, which assigns a dedicated manager.

Kmong is built for Korean buyers and sellers: the site is Korean-only and priced in KRW. Clients pay a 4.5% purchase fee (minimum 900 KRW, maximum 135,000 KRW). Sellers pay a tiered service fee that falls as the order grows (16.4% on the first 700,000 KRW, then 9.4%, then 4.4% above 2 million KRW in Kmong's own examples), plus a 3.3% payment-network fee and VAT. Compared with global marketplaces such as Fiverr, it is the default choice for work delivered in Korean, with Korean tax-invoice handling built in.

Kmong pros & cons

What's good
  • Very broad catalogue of about 700 service categories with a large Korean buyer base.
  • Escrow safe payment releases money only after the client confirms the purchase.
  • Fixed-price Standard, Deluxe and Premium packages make services easy to compare.
  • Seller fee falls on larger orders, down to 4.4% service fee above 2 million KRW.
  • Well-rated mobile apps: 4.9 on Google Play and 4.6 on the Korean App Store.
Watch out for
  • Small orders are expensive for sellers: 16.4% service fee on the first 700,000 KRW, plus 3.3% and VAT.
  • Buyers pay a 4.5% purchase fee on top of the gig price.
  • Tax invoicing is split: the seller invoices the service and Kmong invoices its fee separately.
  • Korean-only and KRW-only, so it does not suit non-Korean buyers or freelancers.

Frequently asked questions

What is Kmong?

Kmong (크몽) is a South Korean freelance marketplace where clients buy fixed-price service packages from freelancers, called experts, in about 700 categories such as design, IT, video, marketing, translation and tax or legal services.

How much does Kmong charge buyers?

Buyers pay a 4.5% purchase fee (4.09% plus VAT) on the order amount, with a minimum of 900 KRW and a maximum of 135,000 KRW. The fee is not charged in the tax, legal and labour category. Fees as of November 2026.

How much does Kmong charge freelancers?

Sellers pay a tiered service fee plus a 3.3% payment-network fee, with VAT on both. In Kmong's official examples the service fee is 16.4% on the first 700,000 KRW, 9.4% from 700,001 to 2,000,000 KRW and 4.4% above that. Rates can vary by category.

Is payment on Kmong protected?

Yes. Kmong uses escrow-based safe payment. The money is held until the buyer confirms the purchase, and paying a seller directly outside the platform is prohibited.

Can I get a tax invoice on Kmong?

If the expert is business-registered, the expert issues a tax invoice for the service amount and Kmong issues a separate tax invoice for its purchase fee. Buying from an individual expert, you can only get a tax invoice for the purchase fee.

Can foreigners use Kmong?

The site is in Korean and prices are in KRW, so it is designed for Korean-speaking buyers and sellers. International teams usually use global marketplaces such as Upwork or Fiverr instead.
